A Calgary beer collaboration like no other

Calgary breweries Annex Ale Project and Banded Peak have buddied up on a collaboration like no other.

Their respective brewmasters infiltrated each other’s brewhouse and impregnated a fermentation vessel with a mystery beer. The breweries will each give birth to the mystery beers this week, revealing to each other and the world what sort of beer has been brewed.

Best of all, we the beer drinkers get to try them both!

Get down to National on 17th on Thursday July 27 from 4pm to try them both (see National’s promotional poster above). Tickets are available from both breweries or at National on 17. For $10, you get a pint of each and something meaty. If you can’t make that, the beer will be pouring at both taprooms this weekend.

The breweries explain the thinking behind the collaboration:

“There are a number of districts opening up in the City and to celebrate the Manchester district we will be doing a new sort of collaboration that the City has not seen before. With our good friends at Annex Ale Project we will perform a “shop swap” so to speak.

“Annex will make a mystery beer at Banded Peak and vice versa. As of yet each party has not sampled the beer brewed at their own brewery. The collaboration will start with a Launch at National 17th on July 27th, 2017 and will be followed community crawl in the Manchester Industrial Park on Saturday July 29th, 2017.

“The idea behind this collaboration is to underline the trust and reliability that the craft beer scene has with each brewery, in particular the tight knit nature of the Manchester Brewery district. Banded Peak has been in operation for one year and Annex is entering their third month of business. In addition to this, Paddy’s Barbeque and Brewery is just a couple of months away from opening their doors and Dandy and Freehold are also making their moves to this part of town as well.

“We believe this changing face of Manchester will represent a new and refreshing take on the industrial district, more in-line with Southeast Portland and (Y)East Vancouver. To launch this exciting collaboration, we will be launching each respective beer at each brewery with an informal brewery crawl going on all day Saturday.”

What: Shop Swap Beer launch
Where: Banded Peak Brewing (#119 – 519 34th avenue SE) and Annex Ale Project (4323 1st
street SE), Manchester Industrial Park, Calgary
When: July 29, 2017
Why: To launch two beers brewed independently at two great Calgary breweries

“Both breweries are unaware of what each brewery is making in their shop and it represents an
exciting opportunity to witness some truly awesome creativity and expression of each
breweries interpretation of the others brand. And some serious trust in each other’s
competency as brewers.”
